Adjustable gastric banding is a restrictive type of weight loss surgery and a minimally invasive surgical option for the treatment of obesity, designed to induce weight loss by limiting food consumption. However the safest is the adjustable gastric band procedure. Revision of failed laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.

True Results by the American Institute of Gastric Banding is the #1 Lap Band weight loss surgery network in the United States. Our weight loss surgeons have performed over 11,000 gastric banding procedures more than any other Lap Band surgery group in the nation without a single serious complication.

Just like for the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, the adjustable gastric banding is implanted using laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgery through several small incisions. Unlike gastric bypass surgery, gastric banding does not interfere with food absorption. For this reason, vitamin deficiencies are rare after gastric banding.

With the potential for greater weight loss then gastric banding and less complication then gastric bypass and gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy is now offered at ORMC

What is Gastric Surgery ? Is It Right for You?

Executive Summary about weight lose by Paul Kenneth

Gastric bypass is a form of weight-loss surgery done on a lot of Americans today. For most of us, gastric bypass is merely an option. In a nutshell, it involves placing a silicone band with an inflatable inner collar around the upper stomach to restrict food intake. This creates a small pouch and a narrow passage to the lower stomach. This small passage delays the emptying of food from the pouch and causes a feeling of fullness. The American Society for Bariatric Surgery reports that there were more than 63,000 of such surgeries being done in the United States alone in the year 2002.

However, it is important to note that a Gastric Bypass is not the right surgery for everyone. Think carefully because a gastric bypass is a very important surgery. Most doctors who perform gastric bypass would advise the patient to undergo a low-calorie diet for at least 6 months before they go for gastric bypass surgery. Undergoing a gastric bypass surgery, you may have to bear with the consequence of a possible life-threatening complication as a result of the gastric bypass surgery.

The mini gastric bypass surgeries are the less extensive versions of the more commonly used gastric bypass surgery. A mini gastric bypass surgery also changes the way food is absorbed. The mini gastric bypass surgery takes a shorter time to perform and the recovery for the patient is quicker too.

Success stories on the gastric bypass are everywhere, but how about the fatalities from the procedure? Barely mentioned in the magazines and newspapers, there is a serious risk carried by the gastric bypass and that risk is a 1 in 50 chance of you dieing within 1 month of the surgery - that certainly puts the frights up me.

As the money the private surgeries make on the procedure is rising - over 150,000 gastric bypasses we’re performed in 2004, the claims for compensation from distraught family members rise too. Is gastric bypass surgery worth the risk?
